500 Days of
Summer, one of my all time favorite movie. I’ve watched it a hundred times and
I will never get tired of watching it. Its unique technique of telling the
story is what really had me hooked to the movie. It was released last 2009, it’s
already 2014 and I’m still not sick of it. And the fact that it’s so realistic is
also one of the reasons why I’m so in love with the movie.
The movie
starts with the narrator introducing the characters and in the middle of the
speech, he said “But you should know up front, this is not a love story.” Tom
Hansen works as a writer at a greeting card company. He met Summer on January
8, she was the new assistant to his boss. Tom was immediately attracted to her
and Tom’s friend told Summer about it after the three of them went out together.
They grew closer together the next few months despite Summer’s telling Tom that
she does not believe in true love, and doesn’t want a boyfriend.
They got really
close as if they were really couples, maybe Tom saw them that way, he became
really attached to Summer. Some time later, they had a confrontation and it
finally became clear to Tom that Summer only saw them as friends and that she
really doesn’t want to have a boyfriend. He met Summer again after a weeks of
not seeing each other and got invited to a party at her apartment, he went
there in hope to rekindle their relationship only to find out that it was
actually her engagement party. He became very depressed but after a few days,
started to get back on track and did what he really loved to do, which is to
draw and make buildings. Tom went to his favorite spot in the city and saw
Summer already sitting there, they had some closure and Summer explained that
he was right that true love really does exists but she just didn’t see that
with Tom.
Their ending was
really heartbreaking for me because they looked so perfect together, but Summer
ended up with someone else. All those times they spent together would really make you think that they will end up together. Their love story ended tragically which is a little depressing. However, like what they say, when door closes,
another one opens. That is true to Tom because he attended a job interview
twelve days later and met a beautiful girl named Autumn.
It’s a really good movie and I know a lot of people can relate to Tom or Summer. I recommend everyone who hasn’t seen it yet to watch it, because it really tells us a lot about love which I know everyone has already experienced. A lot of people can relate to Tom or even Summer. For some also, it's an eye opener that love isn't supposed to be like the fairy tales. And I'm sure that like me, most of you would watch it over and over again.
